We work in the former mining village of Riddarhyttan some 200 kilometres northwest of Stockholm. In our performances we have explored the bio-political body, the consumption society, the domestication of nature, love, sexuality, language, globalisation, death and the power of stories.

BASTARDEN

THE RED ROOM: Topher Cambell (director), Nirjay Mahindru (writer), Derek Richards (digital artist), Marva Alexander (performer), Daniel Williams (performer), Alasdair MacEwen (performer) and Ana Gillespie (producer).

Journeys to work will be the UK performance within the @work project and is about migration, immigration and integration. It is about the meeting place between the North and South, the East and West. It is about movement, economics, race, nationality, nationhood, the right to work and family.

It is inspired by a photograph in The Guardian of African refugees who landed on the beach in the Canary Islands. The emaciated, hungry refugees were nursed by the overweight, bikini-clad European tourists. At the same time in the UK, a debate is raging about the influx of Eastern European migrant workers, particularly those from Poland, Bulgaria and Romania.

The Red Room

The Red Room is a radical voice of new theatre and film in London that takes risks to create groundbreaking collaborations between writers, artists and communities to provoke and influence wider social debate. In August 2006 the torch was passed from founding Artistic Director Lisa Goldman to Topher Campbell.  An innovative, visionary director with widespread experience in theatre, film, television and radio. The achievement of charitable status in August 2005, recognises the Red Room’s enduring commitment to creating theatre for the broadest possible audience, engaging and inspiring communities to reflect and act on the issues that affect society.

To be a fully accepted member of the Danish society – you must have a job.

One of the current government’s highest objectives is to strategically combat unemployment and reach the ultimate goal of: Full employment!

No Title examines the consequences of this battle for people entering the country from the outside.

No Title is what you have when you enter the country in search of work or merely an existence.

Once inside the experiences and qualifications you bring from your homeland are rarely valid and bare very little significance.

No Title will become a game that socialises immigrants into becoming good Danish workers but at the same time reveals the lives, dreams and realities of people

No Title will be finished in September 2007.

TeaterKUNST is an independent production company founded in 2004 by three female directors: Vivian Nielsen, Solveig Weinkouff and Nina Larissa Bassett. Our aim is to create research based productions that expose contemporary issues in innovative ways of theatre communication.

TeaterKUNST joined the @ WORK network in 2005 with Nina Larissa Bassett as project leader.

Uden Titel bliver færdig i september 2007.

Berlin n@work 2007 – D

Lecture performance

Arbeit (Definition 2.1) (English/ Engelsk med oversættelsesmuligheder)

20/ 4: at 12.00 – 13.30 & 20.30 – 22.00 in SALON K.

THE BERLIN N@WORK: Jörn J. Burmester, Janine Eisenächer, Florian Feigl, Nicolas Galeazzi and Joy Harder.

Arbeit (Definition 2.1)chooses working situations of artists as a starting point for an open performance situation. Today scholars in fields such as cultural studies, economics and sociology frequently use the ways artists produce their work as a model for the organisation of work in general, increasingly including also in management. Although the autonomous, flexible, creative individual, taking insecurity as a challenge, is becoming a paradigm for the post industrial work force, artists themselves are rarely asked for their experiences in these debates.

Arbeit (Definition 2.1) is an examination of this phenomenon with a twist.

The Berlin n@work

Is interested in the dynamics caused by the way the classical outside position of the artist looses its function as a vantage point for observation of society, as it is moving towards its centre. The Berlin n@work was formed by performance artists and scholars in Berlin in 2006 to produce a contribution to the international theatre and performance research project The Story of Work.

REALITY RESEARCH CENTER (FIN)

Lure – an exhibition of infinite possibilities (English/ Engelsk m. oversættelse)

Working group:  Essi Aittamaa (Producer), Niina Hosiasluoma (Actor/Dancer), Jussi Johnsson (Actor), Jukka Korpi (Choreographer), Maria Nuutinen (Director’s Assistant), Janne Pellinen (Director’s Assistant), Pilvi Porkola (Director and Video Artist), Janne Saarakkala (Director/Script Writer/Performer)

There are few empty pedestals in the space and some empty frames on the walls. Video projector is screening blank white. The guide is introducing invisible, make-believe works of art to the audience. The pieces portray work; the great transition in the concept of work.

The concept work avoids definition; it seems larger than life; personal, social, political, essential, voluntary – full of assumptions. At best one could say “work” is disintegrated or fragmented.

Niina @ Work(FIN)

19/ 4: at 20.40 – 21.30 & 21/3: at 17.30 – 18.00 in HUSETS FOYER

A solo dance performance where Niina dances through a series of 30 professions in 30 minutes.

Reality Research Centre

Is a new kind of ’performing arts garage’ in Finland. It is run by theatre/performing arts professionals who are devoted to question the prevailing concept of reality. What is reality? How can we observe, experience, describe, define, reflect, discuss, present or represent it? In Reality Research Centre we confront these questions foremost by searching for new innovative ways of creating performances. The performances are the tool as well as the fruit of our research.

GUESTS

Fiona Hirzel(CH)

a solo dancing “powernap”

10minutes of Fiona

Every day: at 19.30 – 19.40 in HUSETS FOYER

10minutes are long if you watch the clock

10minutes are short if you are kept busy

10minuets takes an egg to boil

10minutes are a perfect powernap

10minutes of laughing hurts

10minutes looking into each others eyes is nearly impossible

10minutes is a short coffee break

Everyday for a week at a fixed time Fiona will dance for 10 minutes in a busy working environment to the sound of the local radio or sounds of work or other real life music..

This repeated moment of beauty in the hustle and bustle of everyday work has proven to provide many results. People stop in their tracks, take a moment to breathe, to look around them and even smile or share something.

Fiona danser i 10 minutter både på The Story of Work platformen og i Den Danske Bank et sted ude i byen.

FIONA HIRZEL

Is a young dancer from Switzerland, who has explored areas such as acrobatics and contemporary circus to expand her dance expression.

Fiona is a guest of the @ WORK network for the Story of Work platform.

Blackhole-factory (D)

Independent artists

Blackhole factory: Elke Utermöhlen, Martin Slawig and Martin Kroll .

21/ 4: EVENING - JAZZSCENEN

In 2007 Blackhole-factory develops their new concert/performance „RESTMETALL: Speculations about found objects“. Leftovers of industrial production, machine parts, fragments are examined during the performance. Through the examination of objects we question the meaning of work, the changes the conception of work undergoes, and try to find out if the observation of materials can lead to new conclusions.

What does work mean, what does material speak about, how can we find an approach to reality?

Blackhole Factory præsenterer deres koncert/ performance RESTMETALL: Spekulationer over fundne objekter til The Story of Works afslutningsfest.

BLACKHOLE- FACTORY

Are independent artists from Germany and are guests of the @ WORK network for the Story of Work platform.

The Story of Work is hosted by TeaterKUNST in collaboration with HUSET i Magstræde and TeaterHUSET.
